I Created A Directory With Claude Code

The No-Platform Experiment

I built a web directory. I did it without WordPress. No Webflow. No bloated frameworks. Just Claude Code and a terminal.

I wanted to see a terminal agent build a functioning site from scratch. It worked. Sometimes it hit a wall, but I got the job done.

It was sometimes frustrating, but ultimately very rewarding. I'm really happy with the results.

Why Skip WordPress?

No database setup. No heavy dashboards.

WordPress works fine for standard blogs. Maybe it even saves time. But for a directory, it usually adds bloat. Pure code wins. Building a site this way feels like assembling a custom motorcycle in a garage instead of buying a factory model. I know where every bolt goes.

What went into it:

  • The Claude Code command line tool
  • An empty project folder

I typed instructions straight into the terminal. I stated the data structure I needed. The agent wrote the raw files and spun up a local server. Then it verified the layout.

The Plan

This was a strict test. I wanted to push the tool until it broke. It did not break, though it stumbled on complex CSS layout choices.

I will share the details soon. I plan to write a full series about this experiment. I will share the exact prompts I used, along with the mistakes the agent made.

If you want to escape monthly platform fees, check back here. I will post the full breakdown next week.

I chose a niche I don't think has a super-high monetization strategy, but something that was interesting to me, a directory about Heritage sites in Spain.

I'll break down the entire process in a video next week.
