Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated: 15 September 2026
The short version
Many of the outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, I may earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra. The price you pay is the same either way.
Who I am and why this matters
I am Andrew Murray. I build niche directory websites, and I write about the tools I use to build them. That means I have a commercial relationship with a lot of the companies reviewed on this site, and you deserve to know exactly what those relationships are before you weigh my opinion.
What an affiliate link actually is
When you click a "Visit Website" button here, the link often carries a tracking code. The company on the other end records that you arrived from DirectoryBuildr. If you later sign up for a paid plan, they pay me a percentage of that sale or a flat referral fee.
I do not see your personal information as part of this. I see a number of clicks and a number of sales.
How this affects what you read here
Three commitments, and you should hold me to them.
Commissions do not decide rankings. The order tools appear in, and which tools get a Featured badge, is not sold. If that ever changes, this page changes with it and the paid placements will be labelled.
I write about tools I do not earn from. Several listings on this site have no affiliate programme at all. Scrapy, NocoDB and Baserow are open source and pay nothing. They are here because they are the right answer for certain jobs.
I write the bad parts. Every review here has a section on where the tool breaks down or who should not use it. If a review only tells you what is good, that review is worthless to you and you should not trust it.
Specific relationships worth naming
Directify. This site is built on Directify, which is also listed in the directory. I earn a commission on Directify referrals. That is a double interest, so treat my enthusiasm accordingly and read the alternatives in the same category before deciding.
Featured listings. Some listings carry a Featured badge. Where that placement has been paid for or provided as part of a commercial arrangement, it is a commercial placement, not an editorial ranking.
My own products. I sell a paid course and a done-for-you service on building directory sites at start.directorybuildr.com. When I link to my own products, I am obviously not impartial, and I will always say so at the point of the link.
Advertising. This site displays third party advertising. Those ads are served automatically and I do not choose or endorse the individual advertisers. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Pricing and accuracy
Pricing changes constantly on software. Every price quoted on this site was accurate when the page was written, and may not be accurate today. Always confirm the current price on the vendor's own site before you buy. Nothing on this page or this site is a binding offer.
What I would tell a friend
Do not buy a tool because a review told you to, including mine. Use the free tier. Import twenty real listings. See whether the thing breaks. That is the only test that counts, and it costs you an afternoon instead of a year.
Questions
If you want to know whether a specific link is an affiliate link, just ask. Use the contact page or email [email protected] and I will tell you straight.
