Most of the scraping tools on this site are aimed at the same job: pull a list of businesses out of Google Maps and turn each one into a listing page.

PhantomBuster does something different, and if you skim it as "another scraper" you will misjudge where it fits. It scrapes people.

Think about which directory ideas are built on people:

Pricing

Pricing is in euros, not dollars, which catches people out when they budget.

Annual billing saves 20%, which works out at 672 €, 1,536 € and 4,224 € for the three paid tiers.

Read the trial row carefully. The free tier gives you 2 hours of execution and 50 email credits, which sounds generous, but exports are limited to 10 rows. You can run a scrape against 500 profiles and only take 10 of them home. That is a demo, not a free tier, and it is the single most misunderstood thing about this product.

Slots are how many automations run at once. Execution time is the total monthly minutes your automations spend actually working. Run out of execution time and everything pauses until reset. There are no automatic overage charges, which is a decent design choice.

Where it beats the alternatives

Against Apify: better at the social platforms specifically. Apify has social Actors, but PhantomBuster is built entirely around this problem and its Workflows chain steps together in ways a single Actor does not.

Against Browse AI and Octoparse: those run a browser through a page. Social platforms are the most aggressively defended targets on the web, and a generic point-and-click tool will struggle where a specialist does not.

Against everything else here: the MCP server, and the fact that it does not just extract but enriches and pushes onward to a CRM in the same chain.

Where it does not fit

It is the wrong tool for a local business directory. If you want restaurants with addresses and opening hours, use Apify or Outscraper. Paying 56 € a month for LinkedIn automation to build a directory of plumbers makes no sense.

It is priced for sales teams, not directory builders. The whole product is shaped around outbound prospecting, and the pricing reflects that audience. 56 € is a lot next to Octoparse's free 50,000 rows.

Scraping people is a different legal position from scraping businesses. Business name and address are facts about a company. A person's profile is personal data, which brings GDPR and CCPA into scope in a way that scraping a restaurant's phone number does not. PhantomBuster is built for compliant use and only touches publicly visible data, but how you use it is your responsibility. If you are building a directory of individuals, work out your legal basis before you scrape, not after.

PhantomBuster is a specialist, and specialists are only worth it when you have their exact problem.

If your directory lists businesses, skip this and use Apify. If your directory lists people, nothing else here comes close, and the MCP server makes it unusually easy to drive from an AI-built workflow.

Run the trial to confirm the fields, but budget for Start at 56 € from the beginning. The 10-row export cap means the free tier will never tell you whether this works at the scale you need.
